Putin, cutting off the nose to spite the face.

Putin last week ordered that all foreign imported foods be destroyed.    Hmm.  

From the Telegraph:

Dmitry Medvedev, the Russian prime minister, on Friday approved a detailed plan to destroy embargoed “agricultural products, raw materials, and food products” from the United States, the European Union, Australia, Canada and Norway if they are found being brought into Russian territory.

The pungent fumes of incinerated Australian beef, Dutch carrots, and European cheese are due to rise over Russia’s frontiers from August 6.

Russia banned lots of foreign imports last year in retaliation for sanctions applied towards Russia for its annexation of Crimea.

They hope to spur domestic production, or some such thing.  We are blessed here in the US.  We export more food than we import.  We pay farmers to not produce, for a verity of reasons.  Russia, on the other hand, has to import.

Applying my dusty ol’ poly-sci edumuckation, its more likely he’s trying to spur some nationalist sentiment.  Note the ban does not cover alcohol…..  Of course, just because a county imports nearly 40% of its food, as I heard in this case, does not mean that it needs to.

The ban covers fresh fruit and vegetables, dairy products, fish, and most meat. Exemptions from the ban include alcoholic beverages, cured meats and cereal products. Food brought in by individuals for their personal use is also exempt.

So, this Ukrainian conflict, can we expect it, and the sanctions applied against Russia, to continue?

I’m guessing, Yes.

And yet another issue ignored by popular media here.

And the Anti-Hunter Crowd Bays for Justice.   Ironic, those who criticize with some desire to cherish and protect wildlife lash out so violently.

They even threatened the woman’s livelihood, asking her employer to terminate her.

Recipe for Giraffe:

Ingredients –

• 1 giraffe fillet. 
• 1 garlic clove
• 1 white onion
• 1 cup cream
• 1 banana
• 1 teaspoon dry sherry
• 1 jalapeno, sliced and seeded

Directions

1. Put the giraffe fillet (If it isn’t available in your area, a chicken breast will do) in a plastic bag, lay it flat on the counter and fram it with either a frammer or the heel of your hand so it flattens a bit and cooks evenly.
2. Then, after taking it out of the bag (hey, you gotta tell this to some people, you’d be surprised) fry the meat in olive oil on medium heat for seven minutes on each side.
3. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, warm minced garlic and onions in olive oil in a small pan on medium heat.
4. Quickly, before the garlic and onions have a chance to brown, add the jalapenos and, after a moment’s hesitation, pour in the cream and sherry.
5. When the giraffe is almost ready, cut the banana in half lengthwise. Dice one half and throw it in with the sauce, and the other half put in the pan with the giraffe. It will take on some of the flavor of the meat, without any possible germs that it might’ve absorbed earlier.
6. When ready, spoon the sauce over the fillet, serve with the other banana half on the side, and enjoy! (Chef’s Tip—If you forget to wear gloves when handling the peppers, and you learn what they mean when others refer to Hunan Hand, I have found it can be cured by rubbing the palms and fingers with red onion. I have not tried white, yellow, or green onions yet, so I cannot say if they will be effective. And if you have blue onions, call me).

I’ve felt the same as of late.  Whether outrage over a confederate flag, random knock-out games, or some silly lion in South Africa, people are becoming …. simple.   And that will compound real and more important problems of the day.

This, is a very valid observation as well (yes, on that stupid lion again – Who?):

“….realize a very important and vital lesson about the mental faculties of your average American.  And that lesson is they are no longer capable of logic, reason, empiricism or sanity.  Worse, they’re so selfish and narcissistic, they happily put their emotions over principles and the rights of others.”

So true.  I see it often in my practice, where greed, emotion and id outweigh respect for others, kindness, and logic.

The lowest common denominator is becoming more common.

 

 

What I am reading…. . And Watching.

I have been remiss on the blogging recently…because, work.

But, I wanted to post a couple of things…. .  Observations if you will.

We could not get near this with a 10-foot pole.  Not this year.  Traffic pile-ups and too hot for us, but yes, a wonderful sight.  Love the close pass.  So did everyone else.  Watch the video.

Trump.  Hmm.  Bombastic as he is, he says what many feel.  Myself included.   My worry is that he won’t get any nomination with the GOP, and then will become a 3rd party candidate.  Not good.  That would put Hillary in office.  Hope I’m wrong.

Personally, I think the RINOS need a wrecking ball.  But not right now.  Not Trump.  As was pictured on the New Yorker cover last weekend, he’s belly flopping the pool.  And with good reason.  The GOP puts Trump out, he then runs independent, and we’re sunk.  Hillary for prez then.  So some say.

I hate politics.

Another observation, and note well – Obama did not order half-staff for the slaughter of our servicemen on the  Abdulazeez shooting until today.  Today.  The shooting, that happened last week.  Or the week before?  Popular media seeks to ignore, or not cover.  Lest we forget:

There was a 5th.  Navy.  Could not get his pic for this post.  Just as important.

Now;

Chattanooga shooter Mohammad Abdulazeez;  his relatives are now claiming they had no idea.  That he was depressed and drug-addled.

No excuse.  This is their victim card re-direct.  He knew what he was doing.  He was not the “boy next door.”  What he did was what it was.   Inspired by Islamic terror.

Big Surprise.  That popular media does not call that shooting for what it is.  That those connected with Abdulazeez seek to redirect.  That nobody in the media will care about damage trump will do.  That nobody thinks about why Obama did not order flags at half-staff before today.

A tragic farce.  All of it.
