Can we please Pledge our Honor?

harvey_ozy_1_wide-74a44f52a997e1836f70a177d8ca24046c66fcc2-s800-c85I’ve struggled to write on Harvey before, perhaps because he was before my time.  Not really, but I remember him, and his “rest of the story.”  He was very apropos, perhaps.   For today:

Paul Harvey, old-school conservative radio pioneer.  Harvey,

“personalized the radio news with his right-wing opinions, but laced them with his own trademarks: a hypnotic timbre, extended pauses for effect, heart-warming tales of average Americans and folksy observations that evoked the heartland, family values and the old-fashioned plain talk one heard around the dinner table on Sunday.”

“‘Hello, Americans,’ he barked. ‘This is Paul Harvey! Stand byyy for Newwws!'”

“He railed against welfare cheats and defended the death penalty. He worried about the national debt, big government, bureaucrats who lacked common sense, permissive parents, leftist radicals and America succumbing to moral decay. He championed rugged individualism, love of God and country, and the fundamental decency of ordinary people.”

Now, he gives a great overview on what happened to our forefathers here; https://www.youtube.com/watch?list=PLnrD037lIKZAKYsSa6EBpC2AnT4QdRKz7&v=3In5LZwG9Io

Watch it.  And then remember.  Watch it again.  Burn Boston.  Though it makes a begger.  We may lose our sons.  God save us all.  Our founding founders lost all.  For us.  More on Harvey;

Used to hear him often before his death in 2009, most often while sitting for a haircut at the barbershop, or in the car.  But I always remembered him for “…now you know the rest, of the story.”  The fate of our forefathers, those that signed that pledge.  Oh Boy.  I digress.   I guess.

But he carried a message, one that resonates today:  Be true to your self, family, and to your country.  Call out cheaters.  Be honest, at all cost.  And be real.  We need all of that today in our leaders, but they are lacking.  Harvey did not set out to be an icon, he just was.  An example for us all.

Interesting, in 1965 he delivered this:

If I were the devil … If I were the Prince of Darkness, I’d want to engulf the whole world in darkness. And I’d have a third of it’s real estate, and four-fifths of its population, but I wouldn’t be happy until I had seized the ripest apple on the tree — Thee. So I’d set about however necessary to take over the United States. I’d subvert the churches first — I’d begin with a campaign of whispers. With the wisdom of a serpent, I would whisper to you as I whispered to Eve: ‘Do as you please.’

Relevant to today.

He did say, tomorrow always has to be better than today.  I agree.

His Warning to America, in 1965.

Diocletian in Rome, long ago.  Around 300 AD.  He called in the gold, closed the banks, raised taxes, enlarged the government and limited the legitimate powers of congress.  Hmm.  Sounds like today.

And Harvey, on the reverence of our forefathers, what became of them, and the last words of the Declaration of Independence:

And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor.
