Yes, some of these Confederate icons were, um, Confederates. But the statues have been up for decades. They reflect history. They do not, as some may say, reflect society today.
So, why. Why now?
Well, others say it better:
For once the founders have felt the bulldozers’ bite, and after the schools bearing their names, and the currency bearing their likenesses, have been given the Stalinist heave-ho, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the rule of law itself will be easy pickings.
But then the haste, to tear them down. I don’t take any pride, believe me, in this Country’s history of slavery, racism, or segregation. But when looking at this particular conflict, its time for them to act adult. Leave this statuary alone.
